Candlelit Walk and Memorial Service

2023

On the eve of Tuesday 31st October Hope Trust facilitated a candlelit walk across the Athlone bridge over the Shannon River and laid a wreath in memory of all those whose lives have been lost to suicide or traumatic death. At a time of year where people are focussed on death, we chose to have a celebration of life and included support and prayer for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. The candles signified light entering the darkness and bringing hope to those who are in despair.

We ended with worship and a memorial service at the Town Centre square, which included worship, prayer, a life testimony from someone affected but testifying to the goodness of God.  We concluded with prayers of blessing over the town, the inhabitants of Athlone and one another.

It was good to remember that God cares about those who are struggling with the difficult life issues and the pain of loss.
